“For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd,
and he will guide them to springs of living water,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
Revelation 7:17
You overflow with love for those not yet born to you,
those who you long to nurture and guide,
to cherish and hold with a love so selfless and unconfined.
These little ones who you long to know, to laugh with, and to teach,
You dream of.
Your struggle is often a silent one,
with scars that run hidden and deep.
But you are left to wait patiently, or with seemingly endless hoping, or perhaps, even with the sorrow of maternal dreams un realized and ended.
“Barren”
This loaded word seems to imply that for a childless woman,
she is empty, hopeless.
As though she is a “barren wasteland”,
a desert, without growth, hope, purpose, or life giving water.
A woman,
though her womb may be “barren”, empty,
can still be full of Life, Hope, Joy, and purpose.
Woman,
The Lord is near you, and sees you.
He holds you and promises to give you all you need for life, and a life more abundant.
His comfort is tender, like a mother’s gentle caress,
And His heart is moved by His love and compassion for you.
His eternal life, His Living water, enables you,
that though you may not have a little one to call your own,
you can be full, satisfied, and brimming with Life.
Yet,
the Lord sits with you in your patience, faith, or sorrow.
He hears every tearful plea,
Because the Lord answers prayers for motherhood,
though It may look different than you dreamed.
I know some holding a 9 pound miracle wrapped in swaddling blankets that was never supposed to be.
Others patiently and silently still waiting for their long awaited miracle.
The gift of Motherhood can look different through kingdom eyes.
Childbearing,
adoption,
being a spiritual mother,
All a source of wisdom and help to those younger, vulnerable, and in need.
He enables His church to be a source of community, sacrificial love, and service.
A family.

Woman,
The Lord is leading you to a promised land, instead of the doomed barren wasteland you thought you were destined for.
Children are a treasure, a blessing. Motherhood is beautiful, meaningful, and a worthy calling.
But childless woman,
you, who long for motherhood.
You are not barren.
You are not defined by the fullness of your womb,
Or even the emptiness of that spare bedroom meant for a cradle.
His Love for you is full, His eternal life abundant, and His goodness never ending.
